Located in the center of Northeast India, Assam heart of other 6 neighboring state is a wonderful state with fascinating attractions. Its dense forests and rolling plains, they complement each other very nice. The beautiful river Brahmaputra flows from Tibet through this state.

Consumption of tea in India began sometime back in 750 BC. Since ancient time Tea has always been a part of northern and eastern parts of India and has since grown exponentially, making India one of the largest producers and producers of tea in the world. Most tea is used within India itself, and from use by Buddhist monks, has been used for thousands of years. Its use as a beverage was initiated by local regions in the country with wild native plants in your area. From then, hundreds of varieties have been developed and grown, Darjeeling and Assam is perhaps the most popular worldwide. In Assam tea plantation was first done in Sadiya a small sub division of Assam located in the eastern most part of Assam.

In the 16th century, a Dutch explorer said people used tea leaves ASA vegetable garnish, along with garlic and oil and boil the leaves to make a drink from them. In the 1800s, people in Assam, said an editor of Calcutta tea seed imported from China were rising as the plants in forest area. The British East India Company took over the cultivation in Assam and in 1837 established the first non-English Tea Garden. By the turn of the century, this region of Assam became the leader in the world, for the production of tea and best place of travel in India.

During the time that tea was not produced for commercial purposes, the people of this state use to chew tea leaves without processing.

The best place in the state to see lush green tea gardens is in Upper Assam especially the tea gardens of Dibrugara or “Tea City of India”. It is the largest center of the country's tea exporters. It is the gateway to three tea producing districts namely Tinsukia, Jorhat and Dibrugarh. The tea garden situated on the backdrop of mighty Himalaya in Upper Assam will surely capture your heart and making your India tour to Assam a worth.
