Australia Immigration Points and Work Permit
Australia immigration points test was launched on 1st July 2011 and amongst several notable changes is an increase in the age cut-off for skilled migration from 45 to 49 years which recognizes the potential of experienced skilled workers in their mid to late 40s. The new system will focus on better English levels, more extensive skilled employment and higher level qualifications obtained in Australia and overseas. There will no longer be a distinction in the pass mark between independent and sponsored visas and permanent and provisional visas. The pass mark will be 65 points.

Australia federal skilled occupations list has been updated and the number of high value occupations has been increased to 192 with 13 new ones and 4 existing ones removed. The age will be awarded points according to the following:
18 to 29 years 30 points
30 to 34 years 25 points
35 to 39 points 20 points
40 to 44 points 15 points
Before you lodge your application you must obtain your birth certificate, passport or other proof of age.
Work permit Australia is an employment permit which allows a non-EU citizen to work legally in Australia for an employer in a particular occupation. The work permit is initially granted for 2 years. To be eligible for a work permit you need to have a job offer from an Australian employer. It takes between 6 months and 2 years to be processed. In order to work in Australia you will need to hold a work permit. There are number of options open to your dependant on your circumstances and long-term plans. There have been no changes to the conditions and requirements of the permit.
Work Permit Australia requires the visa holder’s sponsor to be direct employer. You will need to demonstrate that you have the necessary skills to perform the proposed activity in Australia. Where Australian registration or licensing with an Australian state authority is required to undertake the nominated position, you may be asked to provide evidence that you are eligible for the relevant registration or licensing. You will need to prove that you are capable of the task. The work condition on your permit does not allow you to change employer or occupation without authority from the department.
