Is Video Animations Really Worth It All?
Everyone can remember sitting down to watch Saturday Morning cartoons. Or When Disney came out with their first animated movie.
Many people all over the world have watched an animation in some form or another. Video animations have been around since the 1970’s and originated in Japan. Now that’s not to say that cartoons haven’t been around for some time now, but the early Looney Tune cartoons where not created as Video Animation. The first cartoons where done as theatrical shorts for use as previews for movies in theaters. They were made by animators in an animation studio. Video animation was introduced as a film or series strictly for home video use. Yes it’s confusing, and it looks the same too, but think about the first Looney Tune shorts you watched as a kid. Then compare it to the first animated movie film that most of us watched; which was probably a Disney movie. The differences might be slight, but they are there. Video animation is a collaboration of pictures pieced together to present the illusion of motion.
Early versions of animation consisted of storyboards turned into colorization forms then places on video for films, but things are much easier now. Most of the video animating is done with computer animation programs, which quite possibly cut production time in half.
Almost everything we deal with now has some type of animation in it. The computer you are viewing this article on has video animation involved in all aspects of it. Computers are a big source of places to find and make video animation. There are thousands of software programs that will help you learn and create Video animation; even if it is just for your own use or to upload for YouTube.
Video animation takes a very talented person who isn’t afraid to use their imagination. The possibilities are almost endless with animation. From story boards to piecing it all together to form a movie or just a small 10 minute cartoon. Look at all the things that have been done over the years using animation. From the first Atari game systems to the new game apps everyone is playing on their Iphone. The world of animation is only limited by the creators’ imagination.
Video animations are everywhere and included in almost anything these days to catch your attention. It is a very rewarding career and one that is sure to be around for some time. From doodling on the Sunday funnies to playing Angry Birds on your hand held, there is always animation to be found.
So the next time you take your children (or yourself) to catch that new Disney movie, really pay attention to the detail and imagination it took to make the film look so real and come alive right off of the screen.
