Nowadays, the business enterprises are challenged by time-critical applications, constrained financial resources, data retention legislations and internet-driven business environment. With on-line business operations also comes the risk of viruses and data being hacked. On the other hand, the offline data is also not safe as malicious access, hardware failure and un-intentional human errors (over-writings, erasures) can hinder the business activities. Organizations that backup their data enjoy business continuity and data loss doesn’t affect their performance. Old bulky and costly backup systems cannot meet these stringent challenges. That is why the public organizations, SMBs and fast-growing companies prefer AIT (Advanced Intelligent Tape) technology, which was engineered by Sony, the prime innovator in backup industry. Sony AIT format features multiple generations, which support the various stringent customer needs. Sony AIT3 is the best selling tape media solution in SMB segment and supports high end workstations and financial organizations. Sony SDX3-100C, AIT3 tape’s capacity has been doubled over the AIT 2 media tape. So the increased storage needs can be met with a significantly lower quantity of tapes that will also help improve the media management and staff productivity. AIT3 tape cartridge delivers an exceptional 100GB native capacity. As compared to the rival tapes in this class, AIT3 is the smallest backup tape. Another benefit of this AIT3 tape is the greater storage capacity after data compression, which is 2.6 times higher than its native capacity. Therefore, Sony AIT3 tape clearly outshines with 100/260 GB capacity. Sony AIT 3 drives are also very advantageous in terms of compactness, durability and host interfaces. Their 3.5 inch form factor provides users superior performance and fast speed in a small physical space. You can be assured of higher compatibility and trouble-free installation as the drives offers single-ended LVDS and SCSI untra-160 interfaces. Their compressed speed reaches 31.2 MB/second that will support the modern backup applications. To ensure consistent performance and efficient data compression, Sony has introduced ADLC (Adaptive Lossless Data Compression) system in its space efficient AIT 3 tape drives. Sony has intelligently accelerated the media loading and data access time of AIT3 tapes drives to 10 seconds and 27 seconds respectively. This has been made possible with the innovative 64-kbit memory chip that comes standard with Sony AIT 3 media tapes. It stores file index and other vital information that helps drives to boost their performance. The other rival tape storage technologies offer usually offer one-generation backward compatibility (write and read), but the Sony AIT3 drives have taken the lead with full write/read compatibility up to the first generation AIT1. So the system up-gradation becomes extremely cost-efficient for the existing AIT customers, whereas they are also provided the luxury to backup and share data with other AIT environments as well. Sony AIT3 tape’s durable cartridge shell and robust base film contribute to its unmatched 30-year archival life. The tape drives’ working life also has been extended to 50000 tape contact hours, thus making this AIT-3 a smart and powerful solution for long term data archiving.
