The Necessity of Sun Tan Lotions

In this present environmental scenario where pollution is on a rise leading to the perforation of the ozone layer, the use of a sun tan lotion is mandatory to keep your skin safe from the harmful ultraviolet rays. These sun blocks or sunscreens act as a shield on your skin that absorbs and reflects the ultraviolet rays of the sun, thereby preventing and protecting your skin from getting tanned or sun burned. Many sunscreens have tanning power, known as sun tanning lotion, which darkens the skin for the purpose of protection, as fairer skin is more vulnerable and susceptible to sun damage.

However, presently in the market there are no such products called sun tan lotion or tanning oils. They have been replaced by sunscreens that have a higher SPF and better protection.

There are certain important factors that one should consider while purchasing and applying a sunscreen or any sun block product:

• The first thing to consider is the Sun Protection Factor (SPF). This determines the effectiveness of the sunscreen. The higher the SPF, the stronger the protection will be.

• The sunscreen must be suitable to the skin type for which it is purchased.

• The sun block product must be applied 30 minutes before exposure to sun.

• It is always advisable to go for water-based products.

Sunscreen products contain zinc oxide or titanium oxide for the purpose of skin protection against UVB and UVA. However, all sun tanning lotion do not contain sun block. Thus, one must enquire before making purchase. It is highly recommended that every person, from a child to an elderly man, must use sunscreen. Research shows that most skin disorders like skin cancer, rashes, irritation and others are all caused due to long exposure to the sun.
