New Approaches to Store Biological Samples and Archiving
Author: reikopena | Posted: 25.04.2012In recent years new technologies have been developed for the stabilization and storage of biological samples at room temperature which have earned a lot of attention. These technologies differ in their implementation while the entire procedure remains the same. The basic principle is to provide room temperature stabilization, age and archiving of biological samples. .
The room temperature sample stabilization and storage technology is entirely based on extermeophile biology that allows organisms to survive in a dry state for less than hundred years. Anhydrobiotic can conceal their DNA, RNA proteins, membranes and cells for long term survival in a dried state and later reviewed by simple rehydration. The method transfers the natural molecular principles of anhydrobiosis to a synthetic chemistry-based stabilization that works by a thermo stable barrier around the sample protecting it against degradation during storage at room temperature. Biological samples recovery is a simple technique as it involves rehydrating the mixture, making the sample ready in a wide range.
The ability to stabilize, transport and archive biological samples now offers possibilities of increased sustainability for managing biological research in the bio industry. A recent collaboration between some of the biggest names in biological research, involved the application of sample matrix and room temperature storage technology to archive recent DNA samples and the long term storage of all newly collected samples. In future it has been planned to move its collection of previously achieved samples from cold-temperature freezers to room temperature storage. A number of advantages have been found in room temperature storage of biological samples, perhaps the most signified is in the area of increased sustainability of biological research when samples are transitioned from cold freezers to normal room temperature..
