Applications of Ultrasound Probes and Transducers
Author: reikopena | Posted: 02.03.2012The modern day ultrasound devices make use of the sonography technology to send high frequency pulses to the human body to track the movements of the body tissues and organs. A transducer is used in tandem with the sound source to catch the reflected echo beam from the probe and convert it to electrical form to calculate and display the physical dimensions of a tissue including the pressure, size and depth.
Very high frequencies are used which are most often very high, in the ranks of 1-15 MHz. The higher frequencies mean a lower wavelength thereby producing images of a much greater resolution. It is important to point out that at the higher frequencies, the reduction of waves is increased by a fair extent and therefore in such cases, a relatively lower frequency is used which stands out as an exception.
The ultrasound transducers are specifically meant to produce the images of soft tissues and body muscles that are more than useful in defining the borders between the solid & fluid filled spaces. They provide live images which helps the technicians to diagnose the problems and take immediate actions. As they show a detailed structure as well as function of the internal organs, they provide a great way of examining the muscoskeletal system to detect anomalies related to the muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints. It is also used in identification of stenosis, blockages and several other vascular abnormalities.
The high class ultra sound systems of today makes used of the best technical resources in a good user friendly graphical interface. However, with inclusion of finer parts, the inner circuitry is also getting complex which is making ultrasound repair a bit tricky at times.
