Inexpensive Burglar Alarms
It is a wonder that many homeowners spend a ton of money buying a house, designing the interior and exterior and filling the house up with expensive items, but yet they do not want to spend the money to have a home security system installed. They would rather take their chances with getting robbed than shell out a bit of cash to protect their belongings in the first place. Fortunately, there are inexpensive ways to get a home security system that can add a significant amount of protection to your home.
First, get a basic home security system installed. You don’t even need to get one that includes monitoring services, although it is highly recommended that you do. The basic components of a system that you should have in your home are a control panel, door and window sensors and a siren. When a door or window is opened and the sensors lose contact with the door or window jamb, a message is sent to the control panel to sound the siren. This can often be enough to scare a would-be burglar off your property. Even if he does continue to break in, he does not know whether your system is monitored or not, so he will only be able to take a few items before he must get out of the area. In addition, the siren will get the attention of your neighbors, and burglars hate attention of any kind.
Next, make sure the exterior of your home is well-lit. This means having security lighting that is activated by motion installed at various points around your home. You should have a light fixture on each side of your home, the front of your home and the back of your home. Light is the enemy of burglars, so the more you have of it, the better.
Along with your alarm system, you should receive decals that notify a would-be burglar that you have a system installed. Studies have shown that these decals alone can deter a burglar from choosing your house to burglarize. Even if you don’t have a security system installed, just the idea that you might have one can be enough to make the burglar move on without ever attempting to break in.
You don’t have to spend a fortune to protect your assets, but you do need to act. You cannot just cross your fingers and hope you don’t ever become a victim, because chances are, you will.
