How Can Hotels Maintain Spotless Floors and Plush Carpets During Such a Wet Summer?

Keeping a premises clean is harder when it gets wet. Particularly when the premises is a hotel experiencing a large volume of foot traffic daily.

The key to maintaining the high standards of cleanliness a hotel requires, even during the wet weather the UK has been experiencing recently (and which, if some doom saying news forecasters are to be believed, is set to be a steadily worsening pattern for the next 20 years), are twofold. Proactive behaviour on the part of the cleaning staff; and proper training in the use of cleaning products and chemicals.

Carpet cleaning services London can help keep the pile dry and the surfaces as fresh and springy as when the carpet was first laid in the hotel. During wet weather it may be advisable to up the number of times you have carpets cleaned – though this can be tricky in a busy hotel, as the cleaning itself may be felt to disturb guests.

A good carpet cleaning services London company, of course, will be able to devise a timetable for regular carpet cleaning that manages to keep the pile plush and the carpets groomed without inconveniencing guests. Plus staff trained in the proper use of dry carpet cleaning chemicals and machines can clean even large areas of affected carpet quickly and quietly – so the hotel can keep its looks without disrupting the stay of any of its guests.

It isn’t simply the appearance of a hotel in wet weather that needs extra care and attention. Flooring and carpeting take plenty of punishment during any wet weather, and the severe wet spells we are currently suffering mete out much more of that punishment than we are used to seeing. But they also create slipping hazards for customers and staff alike.

Clearly avoiding hazards at all costs is as important, if not more so, than keeping the carpet clean or making sure water does not sit on hard flooring surfaces. Well trained staff must act quickly to control a wet floor area – first marking off the affected areas with highly visible slip or trip hazard signs, then attending to the clean-up operation so the floor can be returned to full working order as soon as possible.

Water on all flooring surfaces is a potential cause of long term damage. When water sits in a carpet for any length of time, it promotes bacterial growth and rot. Plus it can be a cause of surface dampness to walls and ceiling, as the water evaporates from the pile in the heat of the room, and rises to coat the colder surfaces of the plaster and lath.

On hard surfaces, sitting water can cause warping, lifting of varnish, and bubbling or any protective covering. So it is, again, imperative that well trained staff, who have been exhaustively instructed in the proper use of the right equipment and chemicals to clean and dry every type of floor surface, are mobilised quickly.

In the rain, Carpet cleaning services London have a dual watchword: speed, and efficiency. Doing the job well is as important as doing it rapidly.
