Benefits of Conducting Nutrition Education Programmes
The health of individuals, as well as the output that individuals have is normally to large extent determined by the nutrition that they have. Therefore, if the nutrition of a person or community is not good enough, then the whole community may suffer from poor health, or their productivity in daily chores may be poor. Therefore, today, a number of organizations, as well as the government usually provide nutrition education programmes so that community members may be educated on the best nutrition to have.
A major benefit that is usually gotten from nutrition programmes carried out, is that individuals and the community at large is usually educated, on the best foods that they can eat to ensure good health. Furthermore, some of the nutritional knowledge that they gain ensures that they manage common ailments that are brought about by poor nutrition. For example, young children and babies often need great nourishment in order for them to grow and develop well. Therefore, if their mothers do not give them the right foods, then the children are most likely to be sickly and weak. So, health and nutrition go hand in hand, and is the reason health workers will often stress to new mothers the importance of having good nutrition.
Another benefit of carrying out nutrition education programmes is that people who know the importance of certain foods can grow them. For example, if a certain community is advised that for great health and nutrition, they need to eat proteins and vitamins; the community can then decide to plant these foods so that rather than buy them, they may simply get them from their farms. Furthermore, surplus harvests can then be sold in order to increase the family income.
Nutritional knowledge is also important because it helps the community prevent the occurrence of diseases. For instance, a lack of protein usually leads to kwashiorkor, while a lack of minerals and vitamins in a diet usually lowers a person’s immunity and as such they may get sick quite easily. Therefore, nutrition programmes are important because they can help the community deal with simple illnesses, and it also assists the community to live healthier lives. Furthermore, with a lot of knowledge on various foods, and diets, a person can be able to improve the quality of their life by choosing healthy foods to eat.
Lastly, educational programmes on nutrition matter a lot because these programs are designed to help the central government meet its strategic plans. This is usually done because all governments have a plan as to when they are going to achieve certain objectives. Therefore, by carrying out various programs in communities, they ensure that they are on track with their plans. For instance, a government may have a plan that by a certain year, all homes will be free of diet related illnesses. So, by carrying out the programs on nutrition, the government will be trying to make sure that they stay on course towards achieving their objectives.
