Reading is a complex process at first and children should have phonemic awareness so that they can easily learn new words. Dolch sight words are not bound with the typical rules of grammar and these are comparatively hard to pronounce. Dolch words are use for children trying to learn first grade sight words in kindergarten or even by parents when their kids are at home. This article will discuss some important tips for Dolch sighted words used for learning proper use of words by students.

How to use flash cards for teaching Dolch sight words?

• Use index cards and write dolch words in large with slightly bolder font. It is best to write single word on every card.

• The teacher need to focus on 5-10 cards per week and it is best to set apart some simple words for the first week.

• Handle the card to children and let them be introduced to these first grade sight words. Allow them to look at these cards so that they can understand the meaning of every single word.

• It is time to start the process by holding one card in your hand at a time and see if the kids are able to recognize those words. After some time when the kids are able to recognize these words, use different cards to make sure that children can recognize those words in any format.

• If you think that children have mastered some words out the flash cards stack, it is time to take those cards out of your collection.

• One can organize interesting games using these flash cards. “Your Pile, my pile” is an interesting game, which will keep the children attentive and enjoy their time while learning.
