Car Info 101: Essential Tips in Maintaining Your Car’s Exterior Finish

What most car buffs tend to look at when evaluating a car is its exterior finish. If it looks lustrous from afar, its owner must have been taking all measures to keep it that way. If it looks otherwise, then you’ve got a feckless owner driving on the loose. To make sure you’re not branded as the latter one, here are some tips you need to consider in maintaining your vehicle’s exterior finish.

Park in Good Shades

Just like the human skin, your car’s exterior paint and covering can accumulate sun damage due to the harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays. If this goes on for a long time, your car’s exterior finish will likely fade. Prevent this from happening by parking in places that provide adequate shading. Doing so will not only keep your car’s exterior finish glossy but will also maintain the coolness of the car’s interior.

Wash It Regularly

Your car must be washed routinely to remove tree saps, grimes, dust, and other particles that can mar the car’s finish. Make sure to wash it outside of direct sunlight as the car’s paint tends to bake due to intense heat. Don’t forget to wax the car as the wax can provide a protective layer from the harmful UV rays.

Apply UV Inhibitors

Most newly purchased cars have special coatings in them called UV paint sealant that protects them from sun damage for a long time. You need one if you want your vehicle’s exterior finish to last, according to car dealers Kelowna residents trust. An average UV wax would provide you three months of protection while a special UV inhibitor coating will last longer than three months. You need to apply it several times a year though for a lasting result.

Prevent Rust Accumulation

Rust is every vehicle’s enemy. If you live in areas with cold and harsh weathers, your car will likely accumulate rust. According to experts in car dealerships in Kelowna, you should have your vehicle covered all the time and always stored in a dry place. Also, make sure to wash your car regularly to remove salt deposits that lead to rusting.

Have Your Car Serviced By a Mechanic

Cars for sale in Kelowna must be annually checked so that car dealers can be aware if there are underlying problems needed to be repaired. It’s not only the car’s exterior value you should pay close attention to; its engines and interior components must be treated with equal consideration.
